MAX3MIN
Very Short Film Festival
3rd edition | 11th – 17th September 2023
Online and in Milan for three days open to the whole city

The third edition comes with a three-days in Milan in the closing weekend of the event.

Press release

MAX3MIN, the first festival of short films dedicated to films with a maximum running time of 3 minutes, returns for the third time. It moves from its usual springtime appointment to the new dates of 11th to 17th September 2023 – and a new Milanese format alongside the online screenings.

Conceived and directed by the Italian-Argentinian set designer Martina Schmied, MAX3MIN started in 2021 as a wholly digital festival; for the 2023 edition, alongside the usual free programming online and worldwide, there will be a three-day rendezvous in Milan for the conclusive weekend of the festival. From 15th to17th September, 2023 MAX3MIN will be in the capital of Lombardy, with screenings, meetings, music and food trucks, a special conclusive celebration in the very fine venue of the Cineteca Milano MIC, the location partner of the third edition.

Waiting for September, MAX3MIN will be itinerant, offering throughout the summer a number of appointments in the city, far from the classic circuits, to take the cinema to where it does not exist.

For the International Competition, films of every kind can be selected, on any topic whatsoever, from any country in the world with constant attention to the different geographic origins and pluralities of cultures. Fiction, animation, videoclips, advertising, digital art, documentary and mockumentary… for a festival that is constantly looking for experimentation, ideas, contamination and stimuli.

Alongside the International Competition, the NEXT GEN prize is back, dedicated to the best short film by students at film schools and academies all over the world, with the aim of encouraging the study of moving images, by giving the aspiring directors a concrete opportunity to take part in an international competition.

The two competitions are joined by a new section dedicated to professionals, in collaboration with the Blackball production company, specialized in advertising and a partner of the third edition of the festival. Therefore, there is also room for short films which, like an advertising product, are able to curate the technical aspect and the visual result, without sacrificing  the creative line. A new test focused on crafting, which aims to connect Blackball with young new professionals from all over the world, laying down the foundations for future collaborations, opening a door into the world of work for them. For the films in this section, selected by the Blackball team, there will also be a prize which will be awarded by a dedicated jury.

PRIZES

The juries of the festival will award the following prizes to the winning films: MAX3MIN JURY’S PIZE, of a value of euro 3,000; MAX3MIN NEXT GEN PRIZE, a technical prize useful for the student’s training path, awarded by a dedicated jury to the best short film; BLACKBALL PRIZE, of the value of euro 5,000 for a new short film. There will also be the PUBLIC’S PRIZE, awarded by all the viewers who wish to express their preferences, in presence and online.

SHORT CULTURE

The main media partner of this edition will be Rolling Stone Italy which this year, thanks to the collaboration with MAX3MIN which started in 2021, has inaugurated a monthly column entitled Short Culture, dedicated to the culture of shortness in the cinema and in the other arts.
