International Competition & NEXT GEN 2023 Jurors

The jury of the International Competition will be made up of: Giacomo Abbruzzese, director and winner of the Silver Bear at the 2023 Berlinale with his first feature film, Disco Boy; Martina Melilli, a director and multidisciplinary artist; Luca Pacilio, journalist and curator; Simone Angelini, cartoon artist and illustrator; Lara Casirati, festival strategist for the distribution company Varicoloured, as well as a festival programmer and selector.

The jury of NEXT GEN will be made up of the staff of the Ukrainian LINOLEUM Contemporary Animation and Media Art Festival: Yulia Kuznietsova, curator and feature film programmer; Anna Ignatova, curator of the programme for children; Zhanna Ozirna, curator of the programme of the international competition and Anastasiya Verlinska, director of the festival. LINOLEUM Contemporary Animation and Media Art Festival is the biggest showcase of short independent animation in Ukraine. Launched in 2014 in Kyiv each year the festival screens around 250 films from all over the world, offers workshops and lectures held by the field's best players and a special program for children. LINOLEUM aims to support animation artists and promote Ukrainian animation worldwide as well as encourage and celebrate creativity among animators and media artists.

Giacomo Abbruzzese

JURY - International Competition 2023

Born in Taranto in 1983, he lives and works in France and Italy. His films, selected and presented at numerous international festivals have also been presented at the Cinémathèque française and broadcast by Canal+, Arte, France3, France2, Sky Art and SVT. His first feature film, Disco Boy, won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale and has been sold in 25 countries.

Martina Melilli

JURY - International Competition 2023

Martina Melilli (1987) is a multidisciplinary artist, director and cultural practitioner. In her collaborations with individuals and experts, she works mainly on films, photographic projects, texts, installations and performances. Her work has been widely shown at major international film festivals and exhibitions. In 2022 Melilli was selected to take part in the Berlinale Talents. 

Luca Pacilio

JURY - International Competition 2023

Luca Pacilio is the editor of the online film magazine Gli Spietati, a contributor to the weekly Film TV and to the monthly magazine of alternative culture Rumore. He is also curator of the Vedomusica section of the Pesaro International Film Festival and consultant for the selection committees of the Locarno Film Festival. He is the author of Il videoclip nell'era di YouTube - Cento videomaker per il nuovo millennio and Lo zoo di Venere .

Simone Angelini

JURY - International Competition 2023

Simone Angelini (Chieti, 1980) is an Italian cartoonist and illustrator. Self-taught, he learned through self-production where he experimented with cartoons, illustration and animation. His best known cartoons are published in Italy, in France and USA. He is the author of Storie Zitte, a book of cartoons (Ifix, 2022), which appears every year in the Smemoranda diary.


Lara Casirati

JURY - International Competition 2023

Lara Casirati (born in Milan, Italy, in 1981) works as a festival programmer and is a member of the selection committee for The African, Asian and Latin American Film Festival and
Festival MiX Milan. Since 2021, she has been responsible for the festival strategy for the distribution and sales agency Varicoloured.

Yulia Kuznietsova


Film curator and programmer from Ukraine. She’s been cooperating with LINOLEUM since 2017, curating an international selection of Experimental animation and Retrospective programs that aim to rediscover and rethink the Ukrainian animation legacy from the present perspectives. Formerly editor-in-chief of the film web magazine okino.ua and a film critic. Also was a coordinator of the project focused on research and archiving of Ukrainian media art.


Anna Ignatova


Curator of the children's program at the LINOLEUM Festival. Film Curator & Programmer at the ANNY international animation festival. For several years was a programmer at the Kinosaray - Positive Film Festival. For 5 years worked as assistant animation director to Stepan Koval (Berlinale laureate) at the Novatorfilm stop-motion studio.


Zhanna Ozirna


She is a Ukrainian director and screenwriter based in Kyiv.  Member of Ukrainian Film Academy and Directors Guild of Ukraine. She was selected to Berlinale Talents 2020 as a film director. The development of her feature debut film Ground Zero was supported by Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and took part in numerous prestigious workshops and co-production platforms. Zhanna is co-curating competition programs at LINOLEUM Festival.


Anastasiya Verlinska


For ten years worked as a project manager of one of the biggest Eastern European film companies FILM.UA Group, implementing projects to promote both film and animation in Ukraine. In 2014 joins the team of LINOLEUM animation festival as a program coordinator and in 2016 became its director. Apart from the festival, Anastasiya organizes screenings of both International and Ukrainian animation as well as educational projects that help to develop the local animation industry.
