A darkly humorous glance at the pressing environmental and neocolonialist concern of environmental dumping. "Useless Machines" is a spoof infomercial selling a collection of pointless fabric-covered laser-cut robots. It comments on the masses of electronic waste dumped in the global south due to rampant overproduction and overconsumption in the global north.
Kialy (b. 1994) is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist and designer, working in textiles and the moving image. Based in Glasgow, she creates unique visuals that combine esoteric colours, materials and textures. Costume and animation inform their practice, which combines and contrasts hand and digital techniques.
