Synopsys

Depression can affect a n y o n e , no matter one's gender or age. Nevertheless, it is stigmatized by our society. People avoid talking about it and if one does speak out, often times they are neglected or even worse, discriminated. Through this animation, we hope to promote a better understanding about depression and end stigma.

Biography
Shiao-ya (Maggie) Huang is a multi-disciplinary media artist from Taiwan, currently residing in Singapore. She has previously lived in Paraguay, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Taiwan, granting her works with unique perspectives.

She creates art in a variety of forms such as film, animation, photography, sculpture, and writing. Her works not only convey world issues on big and microscopic levels such as phone dependency, mental health, and pollution. Oftentimes, they also explore on the idea of subjectivity in perception and the dual nature of reality.

Filmography
In 2019, she helped out in the Award-Wining Honduran feature, "90 Minutos" which won the Audience Awards for Miami Film Festival 2020. Prior to that, she also participated in the Taiwanese TV series, "High 5 Basketball." Her first student stop-motion film, "Dysmorphia" (畸形), was nominated in the animation category for Kangning Oscars ( 康寧奧斯卡). Last year, she filmed and produced a documentary short, "Corazón de Café: Las Chumecas" I'm Honduras, Official Selected by The Lift-Off Sessions Film Festivals. This summer, she completed a poignant stop-motion film called "Drive With Me" for the Singapore Mental Health Film Festival. A sentimental story about a husband who decides to change his routinal life style in order to provide time and company for his wife with depression. In between, she has worked on several small projects ranging from 3D animations, to stop-motion, to documentaries, and to short films. Currently she is working on a documentary web series, "Eyeland of the Soul", an initiative to give a voice to the Visually Impaired community and help raise awareness to correct public misconception surrounding this disability. At the same time, she is also working on a new stop-motion film which will be coming out soon in May.

Director's notes
Through this film, I hope to give people with depression a voice and raise awareness on this mental health issue that is often stigmatized.
